The .MSS file extension is primarily associated with Mindustry, a popular factory-building tower-defense game created by Anuken. In this environment, it functions as a proprietary game save file storing player progression, map states, and resource grids. Additionally, the .MSS extension is utilized for MTS TestWorks materials testing methods, MuseScore (Wikipedia) score style sheets, and CartoCSS map stylesheets used by Mapbox.
Users often attempt to convert .MSS files to edit game variables, extract enterprise testing data, or migrate map styles.
