About MRW files
The .MRW file is a proprietary raw image format generated by legacy Konica Minolta digital cameras. It contains uncompressed, unprocessed sensor data exactly as the camera captured it, retaining maximum dynamic range and detail. Originally, photographers managed these files using the bundled Minolta Dimage Viewer software, but today they are typically processed with professional photo editors like Adobe Lightroom or open-source alternatives like RawTherapee.
The main disadvantage of the .MRW format is total obsolescence. Konica Minolta exited the camera business in 2006, meaning the format is no longer actively supported by its creator. The files are exceptionally large, lack native thumbnail support in modern operating systems, and are completely incompatible with web browsers and social media platforms. Users often face a scenario where a $10/month Adobe subscription feels like the only way to view their archived family photos.
To make these files accessible, conversion is necessary. For long-term archiving without losing sensor data, convert to DNG. For high-quality editing in any raster graphics editor, choose TIFF. For immediate sharing on the web or mobile devices, convert to JPG or WebP. Just drag and drop your .MRW file here to analyze and convert it - free, online, and without installing obsolete software.

The MRW Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MRW converter.
