About B16 files

The .b16 file format is primarily used by PCO to store raw 16-bit image data captured by high-performance scientific and industrial cameras. It holds unprocessed pixel data directly from the sensor, providing maximum dynamic range. Alternatively, the .b16 extension functions as a structural engineering project file in CYPECAD or a legacy 16-bit game image for classic Bullfrog Productions games. Because it is a proprietary and highly specialized scientific format, a .b16 file cannot be opened by standard operating system viewers or web browsers. The file sizes are massive due to uncompressed 16-bit grayscale or color data. You are typically forced to use specialized software like PCO Camware or ImageJ to even view the contents, which creates severe bottlenecks when sharing research data. To make your data accessible, you must convert it. For scientific archiving or quantitative analysis in standard software, convert to 16-bit TIFF to retain the high dynamic range. For web publication, presentations, or quick sharing, convert to PNG or JPG (note that converting to 8-bit JPG will compress the dynamic range and destroy measurement data). Just drag and drop your file here to analyze and convert it securely right in your browser - free, online, and without installing complex scientific imaging software.
