About MRT files
The .MRT file format is primarily a report template file created by Stimulsoft Reports. It acts as a structural blueprint, storing page layouts, data band definitions, text formatting, and database connection strings required to generate business reports. Secondarily, the .MRT extension is used by MikroTik RouterOS as a remote network test file, or occasionally as a legacy Microsoft Jet Database file.
To correctly view and edit the visual layout of a Stimulsoft report, you need the official Stimulsoft Designer. End users struggle with this format because it is highly proprietary to the Stimulsoft ecosystem and cannot be opened natively by web browsers or standard office software. Furthermore, sharing an .MRT file is often useless for an external client because it does not contain the final report data, only the structural template required to pull that data.
Because an .MRT is only a template, standard online converters fail to process it. You cannot simply convert it directly to a PDF or DOCX document. You must render the report with its actual data source using the original software to export the final document. The best conversion targets for a raw .MRT file involve viewing its internal structure, as these templates are saved in plain text using XML or JSON encoding.
Because this format relies on a specific reporting engine and live database connections, it is difficult to convert directly online. Often only the original software can properly read or export the fully rendered data. If our analysis detects the underlying XML or JSON format, viewing or text extraction is still possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your MRT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The MRT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MRT converter.
