About MOS files
.MOS files most commonly represent a Mamiya Leaf RAW Image created by professional digital camera backs from Leaf Imaging (now part of Phase One). This proprietary format stores uncompressed, unprocessed sensor data. It is fundamentally a TIFF-based RAW file, which offers massive editing latitude but presents significant daily usage problems: files are extremely large (often exceeding 50MB to 100MB), entirely proprietary, and cannot be displayed natively by web browsers or standard operating system image viewers. Opening them usually requires expensive professional software like Capture One or Adobe Lightroom.
Beyond photography, the .MOS extension is heavily used in enterprise environments. It serves as a text-based MO Shell script for configuring Ericsson telecom networks, a mathematical optimization model file in FICO Xpress Mosel, or weather simulation data in EnergyPlus. These formats are entirely different from the RAW images and require specialized, costly enterprise licenses to execute natively.
You will need to convert .MOS files to solve these software compatibility and file size limitations. For web use or quick client sharing of RAW photos, convert to JPG or WEBP. To archive images without losing quality and escape the proprietary format, convert to DNG or 16-bit TIFF. If you have an Ericsson script or FICO model, convert it to TXT or PDF so anyone can review the code without needing an enterprise software license. Just drag and drop your file here to analyze and convert it - free, online, and without installing software.

The MOS Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MOS converter.
