Convert MMC to another file type
To convert your MMC file to another format, you need Unity or other Game software.
Convert a file to MMC
To convert other file formats to the "Game Asset Archive" file type, you need software like Unity or a similar tool.
About MMC files
The .MMC file extension is a multi-purpose container used in three distinct, incompatible technical environments.
1. Unity Game Asset Bundle (Primary Use)
Most commonly (approx. 43%), an .MMC file is a renamed UnityFS asset bundle used by games built with the Unity engine. These files act as proprietary archives containing 3D models, textures (PNG, TGA), audio (WAV, OGG), and compiled game logic. The Problem: You cannot simply double-click to open these in Photoshop or Blender. They are binary blobs locked to a specific version of the Unity engine. The Solution: To edit or view these assets, you must "convert" (extract) them using specialized tools like AssetStudio or UABE. You can then save the 3D meshes as FBX or OBJ files and textures as standard image formats.
2. MultiMediaCard Disk Image
In data recovery contexts, an .MMC file is a raw sector-by-sector disk image of a MultiMediaCard (the predecessor to SD cards). The Problem: Operating systems often refuse to mount these raw images natively without formatting them (which destroys data). The Solution: These can be converted to standard ISO files or opened directly with WinImage or 7-Zip to extract the photos and documents inside without mounting the image.
3. BIM-LV-Container
In the architecture sector, .MMC stands for "Multi-Model-Container." It is an open standard (DIN 18290) used to bundle 3D building models (IFC) with bill-of-quantities data (GAEB XML). The Tip: These are technically just ZIP files. If you need to access the inner IFC model but lack expensive software like Allplan, simply rename the extension from .MMC to ZIP and extract the contents manually.
Convert.Guru analyzes your MMC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert MMC file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use Unity or similar software from the "Unity Game Asset Bundle" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to MMC, try Unity or another comparable tool in the "Unity Game Asset Bundle" category.
The MMC Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MMC converter.
