About MLT files

The .mlt file is primarily an XML-based video editing project file created by Shotcut Video Editor. It serves as a text-based blueprint, storing timeline arrangements, transitions, audio levels, and effects for a video sequence. A smaller percentage of .mlt files are RIFF-based DVR video recordings used by the Media Lovin' Toolkit, or proprietary 3D scene files created by Autodesk Maya LT. Users often attempt to convert .mlt files directly to MP4 or MOV to share their videos on social media. However, this presents a major conversion challenge because a standard Shotcut .mlt file is not a video file; it is just a plain-text database. It contains zero video data, storing only file paths pointing to the massive media files located on your local hard drive. If you move, rename, or delete these source files, the .mlt file breaks entirely and displays frustrating 'offline media' errors. To properly get a video, you must open the project in Shotcut and use its native rendering engine to export the final file. Standard online video converters fail completely when processing Shotcut .mlt files because they expect a media stream but receive an XML text document.

Convert.Guru analyzes your MLT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted MTL, MP4, MTS, AFS, SFD, MLW, MPLT, MHT, ZIP, BIN, MKV, MP3 and XAPK files.
