About MIM files

The .MIM file format is a standardized text container used to encode email messages and their attachments. Originally defined by the Internet Engineering Task Force, it uses the Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions standard to safely transport 8-bit binary data (like images, audio, and documents) over 7-bit SMTP email protocols. While mostly handled behind the scenes by email clients like Apple Mail or Microsoft Outlook, users occasionally download raw .MIM files by mistake.

The main disadvantage of a raw .MIM file is that it is unreadable to humans. Because the attachments are encoded into blocks of Base64 alphanumeric text, opening a .MIM file in a standard text editor just displays a massive wall of gibberish. Furthermore, they are not natively supported by web browsers or standard office suites, meaning you cannot easily view the attachments without a dedicated decoder.

Drop your file here to view and convert it securely right in your browser. For long-term archiving, convert .MIM to PDF. To migrate the message to another email client, convert to standard EML or MSG. To strip away the formatting and attachments, convert to TXT. *(Note: In rare cases, .MIM files are also used as industrial printer messages by Markem-Imaje, or multi-dimensional TIFF image data by Radiant Vision Systems).*.

Convert.Guru analyzes your MIM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted X64, DPC and 22 files.
