About MIM files
A .mim file is most frequently a Multi-Purpose Internet Mail Extensions (MIME) encoded file, often generated by email clients like AOL Mail or Apple Mail when archiving messages or bundling attachments.
While convenient for transmission, the .mim format is a common issue for modern users: it encapsulates text, HTML, and binary attachments (like images) into a single Block of text using Base64 encoding, making the content unreadable in standard text editors and unrecognizable to many desktop viewers. Users often receive these files and cannot access the enclosed photos or documents without specialized decoding tools.
Best Conversion Targets:
For Archiving & Reading: Convert to PDF. This renders the email text and layout into a universally viewable document.
For Attachments: Extract embedded files directly to their original formats (e.g., JPG, DOCX).
Note on Variations: A .mim file might alternatively be a multi-dimensional image data file used by Radiant Vision Systems (essentially a TIFF variant) or a message file for Markem-Imaje industrial printers. If your file is a Radiant image, convert it to TIFF or PNG for compatibility with standard photo editors.
Convert.Guru analyzes your MIM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert MIM file to BASE64, HEX, BIN, ENC, CRYPT, AES, DES, RSA, PGP, GPG, ASC or KEY, you can use Microsoft_Outlook or similar software from the "Encoded Email Message" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert CER, BIN, PEM, DER, KEY, P7S, PFX, ENC, P12, BASE64, P7B or HEX files to MIM, try Microsoft_Outlook or another comparable tool in the "Encoded Email Message" category.
The MIM Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MIM converter.
