About E files

The .E file extension is a notorious example of an overloaded format. It is most commonly associated with Enigma Ransomware, which maliciously encrypts user files and appends the .e extension. Alternatively, it is heavily used in specialized scientific fields, such as EEG data files recorded by Natus NicoletOne medical software, or Exodus II finite element analysis (FEA) data developed by Sandia National Laboratories. Developers also use it for plain text source code in the Eiffel or E programming languages.

Because .e covers everything from malicious encryption to proprietary medical records, managing it is a massive challenge. Ransomware files cannot be converted; they require a dedicated decryption key. Proprietary medical EEG files or scientific Ephemeris data are locked into closed ecosystems, requiring expensive software licenses to simply read the data. Standard online converters fail instantly because they expect a standardized format, not a proprietary binary blob or an encrypted payload.

If the file is plain text source code or a renamed standard archive, you can often convert it to TXT, PDF, or ZIP. For scientific Exodus files, you might export to CSV using dedicated visualization tools.

This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert due to its fragmented, often proprietary, or encrypted nature. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. We can inspect the file, bypass the extension, and show text or internal headers. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format (like a disguised EXE, PDF, or ZIP), viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your E file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted EEG, WAF, CTS, ORIGINAL, LOG and PDF files.

FAQ

If you want to convert E file to LOG, PDF, TMP, TEMP, CACHE, BAK, OLD, NEW, PART, DOWNLOAD, CRDOWNLOAD or LOCK, you can use Natus NicoletOne or similar software from the "Data and Source Code Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert DEVICE, CACHE, SOCK, SYMLINK, PID, MOUNT, FIFO, LOG, PIPE, TMP, JUNCTION or TEMP files to E, try Natus NicoletOne or another comparable tool in the "Data and Source Code Storage" category.

The E Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our E converter.
