About MGO files
The .MGO file extension represents a MacGourmet Recipe File, a proprietary data format used by MacGourmet, a macOS recipe management application developed by Mariner Software. These files store individual recipe data, including ingredient lists, cooking instructions, serving sizes, nutritional information, and associated images. The primary disadvantage of the .MGO format is its strict hardware and software lock-in. It is a proprietary file type designed exclusively for macOS and iOS environments running the paid MacGourmet application. If you share a .MGO file with a Windows or Android user, they will not be able to open it. Furthermore, relying on closed-ecosystem formats for personal data archiving creates a risk of data loss if the software is ever discontinued. To make recipes universally accessible, it is highly recommended to convert .MGO files to standard formats like PDF, TXT, or HTML. Because .MGO is a closed database structure, standard online converters often fail to process it. Usually, only the original MacGourmet software can correctly read and export the structured recipe data. We can inspect the file, extract embedded plain text data like ingredient lists, and convert it if a supported underlying format is detected.
Convert.Guru analyzes your MGO file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert MGO file to UMF, MG, TMP, TEMP, CACHE, LOG, BAK, OLD, NEW, PART, DOWNLOAD or CRDOWNLOAD, you can use MacGourmet or similar software from the "Recipe Data Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DEVICE, CACHE, SOCK, SYMLINK, PID, MOUNT, FIFO, LOG, PIPE, TMP, JUNCTION or TEMP files to MGO, try MacGourmet or another comparable tool in the "Recipe Data Storage" category.
The MGO Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MGO converter.
