About UMF files
The .UMF file extension stands for MediaHolder Universal Media Format. It is a highly proprietary container file used by the outdated MediaHolder download manager to fetch multimedia content and eBooks in fragments. The software was developed by GetMediaHolder.com and was often used to manage split downloads from platforms like OnRead.com. The biggest disadvantage of the .UMF format is its misleading name. The format is absolutely not 'universal'. It is locked to a single, obsolete application and often contains nothing more than proprietary metadata, download URLs, and incomplete file chunks. It requires the original software to stitch the files back together and cannot be natively read by modern operating systems or web browsers. Users typically want to convert the trapped data into standard formats like MP4 for video, MP3 for audio, or PDF for documents. However, because these files are fragmented and proprietary, standard media converters always fail to process them. Our analysis can often reveal the hidden source URLs or extract embedded media if the download payload is complete.
Convert.Guru analyzes your UMF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert UMF file to MGO, MP4, AVI, MOV, WMV, FLV, WEBM, MKV, M4V, 3GP, OGV or ASF, you can use MediaHolder or similar software from the "Multimedia Download Container" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

The UMF Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our UMF converter.
