About MF4 files
The .MF4 file extension represents the Measurement Data Format version 4, standardized by the Association for Standardization of Automation and Measuring Systems (ASAM). It is heavily used in the automotive industry to log high-frequency telemetry, ECU states, and CAN bus measurement data. Engineers rely on robust software like Vector CANape or ETAS INCA to record and analyze these datasets. Working with .MF4 files outside a professional engineering environment is notoriously difficult. The files are highly specialized binary logs, often exceeding gigabytes in size. The primary disadvantage of this format is its inaccessibility: it requires expensive, niche software licenses to open natively and cannot be read by web browsers or standard text editors. Users typically need to convert .MF4 files to CSV to analyze the data in Microsoft Excel or to MAT for processing in MATLAB. However, converting a massive binary log to a plain-text format like CSV often results in extreme file bloat and the loss of hierarchical metadata. This format is inherently closed and complex, featuring custom block compression and intricate channel groupings. Standard online converters almost always fail to process it. While full data extraction usually requires native software or dedicated libraries like the Python asammdf package, our analysis can still inspect the file header and show underlying metadata if available.
Convert.Guru analyzes your MF4 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert MF4 file to CSV, MAT, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT or DB, you can use Vector CANape or similar software from the "Automotive Measurement Data Logging" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to MF4, try Vector CANape or another comparable tool in the "Automotive Measurement Data Logging" category.
The MF4 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MF4 converter.
