About MCP files

The .MCP file extension is a multi-purpose container primarily serving as a project file for various development and industrial environments. Its most common use (approx. 35%) is within MCGS HMI Software for designing touch-screen interfaces in industrial automation. These files use the JetDB format to store screen layouts, tag databases, and logic.

Another significant portion corresponds to legacy CodeWarrior and MPLAB IDE projects. In these embedded development contexts, the .MCP file acts as a build recipe, referencing source code (C, CPP, ASM) and compiler settings rather than containing the executable itself.

The primary difficulty for users is the high degree of fragmentation; an .MCP file could also be a Siemens WinCC HMI project, a GoldWave audio session, or a Minecraft mod package. Because these formats are proprietary and binary-incompatible with each other, they cannot simply be opened in a standard text editor or converted universally. For archiving or documentation, users often need to convert these projects to PDF (for schematics/code review) or export data to CSV and XLSX. Embedded developers often need to migrate these legacy projects to XML-based formats used by modern IDEs like MPLAB X or Eclipse.

Convert.Guru analyzes your MCP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted MCPACK, JPG, ZIP, COF, HPRJ and RVT files.

The MCP Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MCP converter.
