Convert a file to COF

To convert other file formats to the "Sidecar & Object Files" file type, you need software like Capture One or a similar tool.

About COF files

The .cof file extension primarily represents either an image adjustment sidecar file used by Capture One, or a compiled debug object file (Common Object File Format) generated by Microchip MPLAB X IDE and Arduino environments. In rare legacy cases, it acts as an Apple QuickTime video container.

Photographers encounter .cof files alongside their RAW images. These sidecar files store non-destructive edits, masks, and color grading instructions. The main disadvantage is that this format is heavily proprietary and locked to the Capture One ecosystem. It requires an expensive software license to read, cannot be understood by web browsers, and is entirely useless if separated from the original source image. For software and hardware engineers, .cof files are compiled binary objects containing machine code and debugging symbols tailored for specific PIC microcontrollers. They are rigid, architecture-dependent, and cannot be cleanly reverse-engineered.

Converting .cof files is heavily dependent on their actual content. Photography sidecars and developer object files cannot be converted into standard formats like PDF or JPG directly, as they contain instructions, not raw data or pixels. However, if your .cof file is actually a misnamed QuickTime video container, converting it to a modern MP4 is highly recommended to restore playback compatibility on modern devices.

Standard online converters usually fail here because they blindly guess the file structure based on the ambiguous extension. These formats are difficult to open, and often only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, like an MP4 stream, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your COF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted COP, COS, CONF, MCP, KWO and OBJ files.

FAQ

If you want to convert COF file to EXE, MSI, APP, DMG, DEB, RPM, PKG, RUN, SH, BAT, CMD or COM, you can use Capture One or similar software from the "Image Edits & Debug Objects" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert JAR, APP, SCR, IPA, COM, AAB, PS1, DMG, VBS, EXE, XAPK or MSI files to COF, try Capture One or another comparable tool in the "Image Edits & Debug Objects" category.

The COF Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our COF converter.
