About MAW files
A .MAW file is a legacy Access Data Access Page shortcut created by earlier versions of Microsoft Access. It functions as a front-end interface, allowing users to view, enter, and manipulate database records directly from a web page layout. These files typically contain HTML, embedded VBScript, and OLE DB connection strings that link back to the primary MDB database file. While useful in the early 2000s, the Data Access Page architecture is now entirely obsolete. The format suffers from severe real-world disadvantages: it relies heavily on deprecated Internet Explorer ActiveX controls, making it incompatible with modern web browsers. Furthermore, because .MAW files can execute scripts and initiate external database connections, they are considered high-risk and are permanently blacklisted by default in most email servers, including Microsoft Exchange and Outlook. Because a .MAW file does not contain the actual database records - only the interface and connection pathways - standard online converters cannot magically turn it into a working modern web app or a flat spreadsheet. Converting it into a PDF or JPG is impossible unless the page is actively rendered inside a legacy Microsoft Access environment. If you are migrating old systems, your primary goal is likely recovering the layout or connection logic.
Convert.Guru analyzes your MAW file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert MAW file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use Microsoft Access or similar software from the "Database Front-End Web Shortcut" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to MAW, try Microsoft Access or another comparable tool in the "Database Front-End Web Shortcut" category.
The MAW Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MAW converter.
