About ACCDE files

An .ACCDE file is a compiled Microsoft Access database. It functions as an "Execute Only" version of a standard ACCDB file. Developers use this format to protect their intellectual property. When a database is saved as an .ACCDE, all Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) source code is compiled into machine code and physically removed from the file. Users can interact with the database, but they cannot alter the design of forms, reports, or modules.

You can open and run these files using Microsoft Access or the free Microsoft Access Runtime. However, relying on .ACCDE files has major disadvantages. The format is heavily restricted, strictly proprietary, and generally limited to the Windows ecosystem. It often requires a paid Microsoft 365 subscription to run fully. Furthermore, if you lose the original ACCDB file, you cannot easily modify the database design because the source code is gone forever.

Converting an .ACCDE file is notoriously difficult. It is intentionally designed as a closed, proprietary lock-box built on the JetDB engine. Standard online converters fail because they cannot reverse-engineer compiled VBA code. If you need to recover the raw data, your best option is to extract the tables to CSV, XLSX, or SQL. Be aware that all forms, reports, and macros will be lost during data extraction. If our analysis detects supported embedded data tables, viewing or conversion to standard spreadsheet formats may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your ACCDE file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted ACCDB, LACCDB, ACCDT, MDE, ACCDR, ZIP, PDF, LDB, INP, JPEG, BIN, RAR and WFP files.

The ACCDE Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ACCDE converter.
