About MATRIX files

The .MATRIX file extension is highly fragmented, serving three completely different primary functions: PCB fabrication data in the Valor ODB++ format, ZIP-compressed AniMe Matrix display animations for ASUS Republic of Gamers laptops, and occasionally as ELF executables for Unix-like operating systems. This fragmentation is a major disadvantage for users. Double-clicking a .MATRIX file usually results in an error because the OS cannot guess which application is needed. Proprietary PCB files require expensive CAD subscriptions to open, ASUS animations are locked to specific hardware configurations, and Linux executables cannot run natively on Windows or macOS. Standard online converters fail to process .MATRIX files because they lack the ability to inspect the internal byte structure to determine the actual file type. Users typically want to convert PCB matrix data to standard GBR (Gerber) files for broader manufacturing compatibility, or extract the internal images hidden inside ASUS animation archives. This file format is notoriously difficult to open or convert because the data is either highly specialized or compiled machine code.

Convert.Guru analyzes your MATRIX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted XLSX, TXT, JPG, CHALL, GNT and RCV files.

The MATRIX Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MATRIX converter.
