The .GNT file extension most commonly functions as a compiled COBOL program module or object. It contains generated native code used by Micro Focus COBOL to run enterprise and legacy mainframe applications. However, the extension is heavily fragmented. It is also used by the CASIA HWDB dataset to store Chinese handwritten text for machine learning. Alternatively, open-source software like GanttProject uses .GNT to save project management timelines as structured XML.
Working with .GNT files is notoriously frustrating because you rarely know what is inside until you inspect it.
