About M4P files
The .M4P format is an MPEG-4 audio container holding Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) data. Its defining characteristic is the strict implementation of Apple FairPlay Digital Rights Management (DRM). Originally used for music purchased on iTunes, Apple now uses it to lock offline downloads from Apple Music. This format is notoriously frustrating for users. Because of the DRM encryption, .M4P files are practically useless outside of the Apple ecosystem. You cannot play them on standard MP3 players, older car stereos, or native Android music apps. They also cannot be imported into Digital Audio Workstations like Adobe Audition or Audacity for editing or sampling. Furthermore, if you cancel your Apple Music subscription, the files check a remote server and become permanently unplayable. To regain control and interoperability, conversion is necessary. For universal playback on any modern or legacy device, convert to MP3. If you want to maintain the original AAC audio quality without the Apple DRM restrictions, target M4A. For lossless audio editing and production workflows, convert to WAV. Just drag and drop your file here to analyze and convert it securely right in your browser.
