A .lms file is most commonly a project file created by LEGO Mindstorms Robot Inventor. It contains code blocks, sounds, and assets needed to control robotics hardware. In other contexts, it functions as an xml musical light show sequence used by Light-O-Rama software, or a photonics simulation project managed by Ansys Lumerical.
