About LIN files

The .LIN extension primarily represents two distinct file types: a Bridge Base Online (BBO) card game record or an AutoCAD linetype definition. As a BBO file, it stores card distributions, bidding sequences, and gameplay history in a lightly encoded text structure. As an AutoCAD file, it defines custom dash-dot line patterns used in technical and architectural drafting. It is also used as a compiled script file in games like Final Fantasy X and Grand Theft Auto.

The main disadvantage of .LIN files is their extremely poor interoperability. Bridge .LIN files use a proprietary syntax that is frustrating for humans to read. They cannot be embedded in websites, shared easily on social media, or printed cleanly for study groups without specialized desktop software like BridgeComposer. Meanwhile, AutoCAD .LIN files require expensive CAD software to compile and are notorious for causing broken references when sharing DWG projects.

To make bridge hands actually usable, convert .LIN to PDF or JPG for printing and sharing, or to standard PBN (Portable Bridge Notation) for broad software compatibility. For CAD users, extracting linetypes to plain TXT or converting them into standard vector formats is often required. Drag and drop your file here to analyze and convert it - free, online, and without installing software.

Convert.Guru analyzes your LIN file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted PBN, QM, TXT, DWG, PDF, LNK, SPV, SAV, ENC, DWF, PLT and BPL files.

The LIN Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our LIN converter.
