About LFP files
The .LFP file extension primarily represents an IPRO Load File used extensively in the legal eDiscovery industry. These are plain text files, often formatted in UTF-8 or UTF-16 (LE), that act as database indexes to map document images (like TIFF or PDF) and metadata to specific fields during litigation workflows. A secondary, yet notable use is the Lytro Light Field Picture. Created by Lytro cameras, these proprietary files store multidimensional light field data. A rare third use is a Lens Distortion Preset for Adobe Photoshop.
Users face significant disadvantages with .LFP formats. As an eDiscovery load file, the .LFP is completely useless if the associated image directories are missing, and it requires expensive enterprise subscriptions to software like Relativity or Laserfiche to process. As a Lytro picture, the format is entirely obsolete; the hardware and the original Lytro Desktop software are discontinued, leaving these files orphaned and unreadable on modern operating systems.
When converting eDiscovery files, legal professionals typically extract the text or convert the underlying referenced files into flat PDF or multi-page TIFF documents to share them outside of proprietary databases. For Lytro images, converting to standard JPG or PNG is the only practical way to view them today, though you will permanently lose the interactive ability to refocus the image.
This file format is difficult to open or convert because it is either an enterprise-specific structural index or a closed, proprietary multidimensional image. Standard online converters fail because they lack specialized eDiscovery text parsers or complex light-field decoding logic. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your LFP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The LFP Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our LFP converter.
