Extract text from LFP files
To convert your LFP file to another format, you need Reveal or other Data software.
To convert other file formats to the "Litigation Load File" file type, you need software like Reveal or a similar tool.
The .lfp extension usually indicates one of two very different formats: an Ipro Tech LFP load file used in the legal industry, or a Lytro Light Field Picture created by now-defunct Lytro cameras.
1. Ipro LFP (eDiscovery Load File):
This is a structured ASCII text file used to import document batches into litigation support platforms like Reveal (formerly Ipro) or Relativity. It acts as a map, linking unique document identifiers (Bates numbers) to specific image files (TIFF/JPG) or text files on a disk. Users typically need to convert these to CSV or XLSX because raw .lfp files are difficult to audit manually and often contain rigid, proprietary delimiters that Excel doesn't parse automatically. Converting to a standard spreadsheet format ensures you can verify document counts and file paths without expensive eDiscovery software.
2. Lytro Light Field Picture:
Generated by the Lytro Illum or First Gen cameras, this format captures the direction of light rays, allowing for "post-capture refocusing." Since Lytro ceased operations in 2018, the proprietary Lytro Desktop software is unsupported and notoriously difficult to run on modern macOS or Windows systems. This leaves users with large, unviewable archives. The practical solution is converting these proprietary containers into flat JPG images (for a specific focal point) or MP4 videos (to demonstrate the focus shift/parallax effect) for web sharing and archiving.
