About LBX files

The .LBX extension primarily refers to the label layout files created by Brother P-touch Editor. These files are used to design and store label templates containing text, barcodes, images, and formatting frames for Brother label printers. Technically, modern Brother .LBX files are often ZIP containers holding XML data (label.xml and prop.xml), making them partially accessible to power users who rename the extension to .ZIP. However, for standard users, they are a proprietary "locked" format that requires the specific manufacturer software to view or edit correctly.

A secondary, legacy use of the format is the Visual FoxPro Label file. These are binary database files used to define label printing layouts in older Microsoft database applications. The dual nature of this extension causes frequent compatibility errors, as opening a FoxPro database file in Brother software (or vice versa) will fail.
