About KMD files

A .kmd file is primarily a proprietary Game 3D Model format used by Japanese developers like Konami (e.g., Pro Evolution Soccer) and Koei Tecmo (e.g., Ninja Gaiden, King of Fighters). These files act as containers for character meshes, textures, and animation data, often compressed or encrypted to prevent easy access.

Users typically encounter .kmd files when attempting to mod games or extract 3D assets for printing or animation. The key problem is that standard 3D software like Blender or Autodesk Maya cannot open them directly. Without the right conversion tools, the file is essentially a locked box of binary data.

To make these files usable, they must be converted into standard interchange formats. For 3D editing, convert to OBJ or FBX. For use in web-based 3D viewers, convert to GLTF or GLB. Specialized extraction utilities like Noesis or QuickBMS are often required to parse the internal structure before conversion can take place.

Convert.Guru analyzes your KMD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted WIRE, PLY and SCW files.
