About KC files
The .kc file extension usually serves one of two distinct, technical purposes, each with its own set of compatibility headaches.
Most frequently, a .kc file is a legacy 2D drawing created by KeyCreator (formerly CADKEY), a direct modeling CAD system. A common issue here is proprietary lock-in: these files contain vector geometry and annotations that are unreadable by standard viewers or even other major CAD platforms like AutoCAD without specific translation plugins. This makes sharing designs with manufacturing partners or clients difficult if they don't own a Kubotek license. For broader accessibility, the best practice is converting these drawings to PDF for static viewing or DXF/DWG for interoperable editing.
Alternatively, in the software development world, a .kc file represents a compiled interface definition for the Kivy framework, an open-source Python library for developing multitouch applications. These are binary versions of text-based KV files, generated to speed up application loading on mobile devices. Developers often encounter these as 'junk' files that cannot be edited directly; if you need to modify the UI layout, you must locate the original KV text file or attempt to reverse-engineer the content. Less commonly, .kc files may appear as internal database components for Kaspersky security products, which should generally be left untouched to ensure system stability.
Convert.Guru analyzes your KC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert KC file to SYS, DLL, EXE, DRV, VXD, 386, COM, BAT, CMD, SCR, PIF or LNK, you can use KeyCreator or similar software from the "CAD Drawing & UI Source" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MSI, EXE, REG, MST, LNK, CAB, CAT, DRV, INF, SYS, MSU or DLL files to KC, try KeyCreator or another comparable tool in the "CAD Drawing & UI Source" category.
The KC Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our KC converter.
