About IMX files

IMX files primarily serve as Mind Map Documents created by OpenGenius iMindMap (now Ayoa). These files function as compressed archives (based on ZIP) containing XML structures and assets to render radial maps, flowcharts, and brainstorming diagrams. A significant minority of .IMX files are Infrastructure Model Exchange databases used by Autodesk InfraWorks for civil engineering data.

For iMindMap users, the core challenge is legacy accessibility. Since the software transitioned to the cloud-based Ayoa platform, opening older, local .IMX files often requires a paid subscription or defunct software. Users frequently find their brainstorming data locked away in a proprietary format that modern browsers and standard viewers cannot display. To regain access, converting these visual maps to PDF (for vector-quality printing), SVG (for scalable editing), or JPG/PNG (for quick sharing) is the optimal workflow.

For Autodesk users, the .IMX format acts as a read-only SQLite bridge between GIS data and Civil 3D. These files are typically large, complex, and useless to stakeholders without specialized engineering software. Converting these infrastructure models to DWG, DXF, or Shapefile (SHP) allows for broader compatibility with standard CAD and GIS applications.

Convert.Guru analyzes your IMX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted IMFX, PNG, JPG, OTX, DD and SDG files.

The IMX Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our IMX converter.
