About IAR files

An .IAR file is primarily used as an Integration Cloud Service Archive by Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC). It packages application integrations, connection details, and routing logic for migration between cloud environments. Other distinct uses include inventory archives for the OpenSimulator virtual world platform, proprietary database backups for the Polish accounting software InsERT GT, and visual novel game media archives built on the CatSystem2 engine.

The main problem with the .IAR format is its highly platform-dependent nature. For enterprise users, deploying an Oracle OIC file requires an active, expensive Oracle Cloud subscription and the specific OIC environment to interpret the XML configurations correctly. It is a closed, proprietary data package. Because of this, standard online converters fail to process it; the internal structure is completely meaningless without the parent software platform.

Fortunately, both Oracle's .IAR and OpenSimulator's .IAR files rely on standard compression techniques, acting as standard ZIP and GZ archives under the hood. The best conversion targets are standard ZIP or TAR formats. You can often rename the extension to ZIP to manually extract the underlying XML files or game assets, though doing this means you will lose the ability to import the package directly back into the proprietary software.

Because these files are difficult to open outside their native ecosystem, you might be unsure what type of .IAR file you actually have. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format - like a standard ZIP container - viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your IAR file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted ZIP, CTR, BIG, PSARC, GCC and CMAKE files.

The IAR Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our IAR converter.
