About HXC files

The .HXC extension is currently dominated by the Friday Night Funkin' modding community, where it serves as a Haxe script file used to program game events, character behaviors, and custom levels. While these are technically plain text files, standard code editors like Visual Studio Code often fail to recognize the extension by default, leaving users without syntax highlighting or auto-completion unless they manually configure file associations. This proprietary friction makes it difficult for casual users to view the logic inside without specific tooling.

Historically, .HXC also refers to the Microsoft Help 2.0 Collection Definition file, an XML-based format used in Visual Studio 2002-2008 to define the structure of help documentation. These legacy files are now obsolete and difficult to open on modern Windows systems without installing ancient SDKs.

The HXC Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our HXC converter.
