About HXS files
The .HXS file is primarily a Microsoft Help 2 compiled documentation file. Microsoft introduced this format alongside Visual Studio 2002 to replace the aging CHM format. It relies on XML and HTML inside a compiled wrapper. Alternatively, modern users frequently encounter .HXS as a Haxe Script file used in the HaxeFlixel engine, primarily for scripting events and mods in the popular game Friday Night Funkin' (FNF) Psych Engine. Handling .HXS files is highly frustrating today. As a Microsoft Help 2 file, it is completely deprecated. You cannot natively open it in modern Windows versions without obsolete viewers like Microsoft Document Explorer. It is proprietary, heavily tied to legacy versions of MSDN, and cannot be browsed on the web. As a Haxe script, it is simple raw text but often lacks proper syntax highlighting unless opened in a specialized IDE. You must convert .HXS files to liberate the trapped data. For legacy help files, extract the contents or convert them to HTML for web browsing or PDF for reading and archiving. For FNF game scripts, converting to standard TXT or HX ensures cross-platform editing without specialized modding tools. The HXS Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our HXS converter.
