To convert other file formats to the "Legacy Chart File" file type, you need software like Harvard ChartXL or a similar tool.
About HCX files
A .hcx file is a proprietary chart document created by Harvard ChartXL. It is used to store complex technical, business, and statistical data visualizations.
This format has severe disadvantages in the modern era. It is highly obsolete and completely proprietary. The software required to open it natively is no longer sold or updated. You cannot open a .hcx file on modern operating systems without using a virtual machine running legacy versions of Windows. Furthermore, it is not supported by modern web browsers, nor can it be imported directly into contemporary office suites like Microsoft Excel.
Users typically need to convert .hcx files to recover historical data or graphs. The best target formats are PDF, JPG, or PNG to preserve the visual appearance of the charts. If you need the actual numbers, exporting the internal data to CSV is the optimal choice.
This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert. It is a closed, undocumented legacy format, which means standard online converters fail to process it. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your HCX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert HCX file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use Harvard ChartXL or similar software from the "Data Visualization and Charting" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to HCX, try Harvard ChartXL or another comparable tool in the "Data Visualization and Charting" category.
The HCX Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our HCX converter.
