Extract text from Heat treatment and mocap files (HTR)
To convert HTR Data files to another format, you need Heatmasters HM-System or other Data software.
To convert other file formats to the "Industrial Logging & 3D" file type, you need software like Heatmasters HM-System or a similar tool.
The .htr file extension serves two distinct, unrelated technical communities: industrial metallurgy and 3D character animation.
1. Heatmasters Heat Treatment Data (Primary Use):
Most commonly, an .htr file is a measurement log generated by Heatmasters Oy control systems (like the HM-Rigel). These files record critical thermal cycle data - temperature, time, heating rates, and cooling rates - used to certify that welded metals have been properly heat-treated (stress-relieved).
The Problem: These files are proprietary data logs. You cannot double-click to open them in Microsoft Excel or a standard text editor to generate a readable report for clients. They require specific industrial software to view or print.
The Solution: For client reporting and archiving, the best practice is converting these logs to PDF/A. For engineering analysis or plotting custom graphs, convert the raw data to CSV or XLSX.
2. Motion Analysis Mocap Data:
In the animation industry, .htr stands for Hierarchical Translation-Rotation. Developed by Motion Analysis Corporation, this is a legacy ASCII format used to store skeletal motion capture data. It defines a 3D character's bone hierarchy, base position, and frame-by-frame rotational data.
The Problem: While human-readable, .htr files are outdated. Modern game engines like Unreal Engine and Unity often lack native support, and manual editing of the ASCII structure is prone to breaking the skeleton's rigging.
The Solution: For use in modern 3D pipelines, these files should be converted to FBX (for maximum compatibility) or BVH (Biovision Hierarchy) for use in software like Blender or Autodesk Maya.
