About HPS files
The .HPS extension is a classic example of file format collision, serving three distinct, unrelated industries. Its most common iteration (approx. 46%) is a Game Save File generated by Hobo: Tough Life, an urban survival RPG. These files store player inventory, stats, and world states. Users typically encounter friction here when attempting to transfer saves between devices or edit values for cheats, as the binary structure is not natively human-readable.
However, a significant portion of .HPS files (11%) are proprietary 3D Dental Models created by the 3Shape Dental System. These files represent scanned prosthetics or oral topography. The major frustration for users is the vendor lock-in; .HPS files often require an expensive 3Shape license and dongle to view. To make these usable in standard CAD software like Blender or for 3D printing, they must be converted to interoperable formats like STL or OBJ.
Finally, the format appears as a sequenced audio container in Sega games (e.g., Yakuza series) or as scripts for the HPL Engine (Frictional Games). Audio files are useless outside the game engine unless converted to MP3 or WAV using specialized tools like vgmstream.
Convert.Guru analyzes your HPS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted HPGL, HWP, DCM, MP3, STL, XPS, PDF, ZIP, DME and LXF files.
The HPS Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our HPS converter.
