To convert other file formats to the "Word Processor Document" file type, you need software like Hancom Office or a similar tool.
About HWP files
The .HWP file is a proprietary word processing document format created by the South Korean company Hancom. It is the default file type generated by Hancom Office (historically known as Hangul Word Processor). This format is the mandatory standard for the South Korean government, public institutions, and domestic businesses.
Opening an .HWP file without Hancom's software is a frustrating experience for international users. Because the format is historically closed-source and binary-based, global tools like Microsoft Word or Google Docs cannot process it reliably. When Microsoft Word attempts to import an .HWP file, the complex layouts, tables, and native Korean typography elements are frequently destroyed. Users often hit a paywall, discovering they need a Hancom Office subscription just to view the text, and web browsers cannot natively display these files at all.
To interact with Korean entities or handle legacy documents, you must convert the file. For active editing in Western software, convert to DOCX. If you need to share the document, preserve the layout exactly as the author intended, or archive the file, convert to PDF. For raw text extraction, convert to TXT. Drop your file here to view and convert it securely right in your browser, completely bypassing the need for specialized software.
