About HF files

The .HF extension creates significant confusion because it serves two completely different, high-friction ecosystems.

1. Hilti Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) Scan:
The most critical use is by the Hilti PS 1000 X-Scan system. These files contain raw radar data revealing rebar, post-tension cables, and conduits inside concrete. The problem is that these files are strictly proprietary to the PROFIS Detection software suite. Engineers and architects often receive these files but cannot open them without an expensive license. The standard workflow requires converting these scans into PDF for inspection reports, DXF/DWG for AutoCAD overlay, or standard JPG images for quick sharing. Without conversion, the data is effectively locked inside the scanner's ecosystem.

2. Mobizen & Samsung Media Files:
A secondary but common frustration involves mobile media. The Mobizen screen recording app occasionally saves incomplete or raw recordings as .HF files. In reality, these are often just MP4 video streams with non-standard headers or missing metadata. Similarly, older Samsung Secure Folder implementations obfuscate images by stripping headers and renaming them to .hf. In these cases, users don't need 'engineering' software; they need a tool to repair the container or restore the file signature to standard MP4 or JPG formats so they can be viewed in VLC Media Player or web browsers.
