About HF files

The .hf file extension represents several completely different data types, creating frequent compatibility issues. Most commonly, it is a proprietary Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) scan generated by the Hilti PS 1000 X-Scan system and analyzed using Hilti PROFIS Detection software. Alternatively, it serves as an obscured screen recording video captured by the Mobizen app (often an internally structured MP4), a compressed data package for Valve's Half-Life game, or a hidden image within a Samsung Secure Folder (acting as a headerless JPG).

The biggest challenge with .hf files is their proprietary and intentionally obscured nature. Hilti radar files require expensive, specialized software to open and cannot be shared easily with clients or standard CAD programs. Mobizen and Samsung files use the .hf extension to hide the underlying video or image data, preventing native playback on standard media players or web browsers. They often strip standard file headers to avoid detection by system indexing.

To resolve these roadblocks, conversion and structural repair are necessary. For Mobizen video files, convert to standard MP4 or MKV to restore compatibility with VLC media player or video editing software. For Samsung Secure Folder images, convert to JPG or PNG for standard image viewing. For Hilti GPR data, exporting or converting to standard document formats like PDF is required for reporting.
