About GTT files
A .gtt file typically stores translation data for Garmin devices and Garmin BaseCamp, mapping internal interface strings to specific languages using an XML structure. Alternatively, it functions as a tablet weaving pattern file created by Guntram's Tabletweaving Thingy, or as a game ground texture file for MMORPGs like Knight Online and Ragnarok Online.
Because .gtt files serve highly specialized functions, they suffer from poor compatibility. The Garmin text files are proprietary to Garmin device updates. The weaving patterns require a niche application to render correctly. The game texture variants are strictly tied to proprietary game engines and are often packed to prevent player modification. You cannot simply view these files in standard web browsers or image viewers without specialized software.
Converting these files depends heavily on the specific variant. For the Garmin and weaving pattern variants, converting to standard XML or TXT is the most practical choice for manual editing, though you risk losing device compatibility if the schema breaks. For the game textures, users typically want to convert to PNG or JPG, but standard online converters fail to process the proprietary game asset packing.
This file format is notoriously difficult to open or convert because often only the original software or specialized modding tools can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your GTT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert GTT file to TSP, MG, TXT, RTF, DOC, DOCX, ODT, PAGES, TEX, LATEX, MD or MARKDOWN, you can use Garmin BaseCamp or similar software from the "Device Interface Localization Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert PDF, DOC, ASC, TODO, NFO, MEMO, README, DOCX, JPG, TXT, NOTE or RTF files to GTT, try Garmin BaseCamp or another comparable tool in the "Device Interface Localization Data" category.
The GTT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GTT converter.
