About SVY files
A .svy file is a generic extension used by several proprietary surveying and GIS applications, most notably Carlson Software (Survey), IDS GeoRadar, and Tinker & Rasor.
For Carlson Software users, this file typically acts as a "Raw Survey Data" or configuration container, storing coordinates, instrument heights, and field notes. In the context of IDS GeoRadar, the .svy file serves as the project header for Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) surveys, linking to external data files like .CSAN or NMA. Users of Tinker & Rasor equipment encounter this format as a "DC Survey" file containing pipeline corrosion voltage data.
The main problem with .svy files is their proprietary nature; they are often binary or non-standard ASCII, making them unreadable to standard software like Microsoft Excel or AutoCAD without conversion. Users frequently need to convert these files to DXF for CAD drafting, CSV for spreadsheet analysis, or TXT for archiving field data. While the original software (e.g., Ouverture) handles them natively, users without access to these expensive suites must rely on conversion tools to extract the raw geospatial data.
Convert.Guru analyzes your SVY file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert SVY file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use Carlson Survey or similar software from the "Survey Mapping Data File" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to SVY, try Carlson Survey or another comparable tool in the "Survey Mapping Data File" category.
The SVY Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SVY converter.
