To convert other file formats to the "Proprietary Map & Data File" file type, you need software like Garmin ActiveCaptain or a similar tool.
About QCC files
The .QCC file extension primarily functions as a Quickdraw Contours map data file created by Garmin marine navigation devices. These files store personalized, high-definition depth maps generated by sonar. Alternatively, .QCC files act as Quality control characteristic data files for Q-DAS statistical software in manufacturing, or as application data archives for Quasar Accounting.
The main disadvantage of the .QCC format is its severe fragmentation and proprietary nature. A .QCC file could be encrypted sonar map data, a compressed ZIP archive holding accounting data, or a Microsoft JetDB database used for Quartz Crystal Control. Standard online converters fail to process these files because they cannot guess which proprietary application originally created the data. Users are often locked into expensive vendor ecosystems or require specific chartplotter hardware just to read their own data.
Depending on the specific file variant, users frequently need to convert Garmin map data into standard GPX files for universal GPS use, export Q-DAS quality control metrics to CSV for spreadsheet analysis, or extract Quasar Accounting archives into readable XML.
Because these are closed, proprietary formats, often only the original software can properly read or export the data. However, convert.guru offers a pragmatic workaround. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format - such as a hidden ZIP container or a JetDB database structure - viewing or conversion may still be possible without the original software.
Convert.Guru analyzes your QCC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert QCC file to SVG, AI, EPS, PDF, JPG, CDR, WMF, EMF, SWF, FLA, XFL or SKETCH, you can use Garmin ActiveCaptain or similar software from the "Garmin Map Contour Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert AFPUB, EPS, FIG, VSD, SKETCH, VDX, AFPHOTO, PDF, AFDESIGN, SVG, VSDX or AI files to QCC, try Garmin ActiveCaptain or another comparable tool in the "Garmin Map Contour Data" category.
The QCC Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our QCC converter.
