About GRAFFLE files
The .GRAFFLE file extension denotes a diagramming project created with The Omni Group OmniGraffle, a powerful visual communication tool designed exclusively for macOS and iOS.
These files store complex vector data, including flowcharts, wireframes, organizational charts, and network diagrams, utilizing layers, canvases, and smart guides. Technically, a .GRAFFLE file can exist in two states: as a flat, compressed XML file (often GZIP) or as a file package (a directory acting as a single file on macOS). While this structure optimizes performance on Apple devices, it is a major drawback for collaboration in cross-platform environments.
Since OmniGraffle is not available for Windows or Linux, users on these operating systems often cannot open the file without conversion. Furthermore, attempting to email or upload the "package" variant of a .GRAFFLE file often results in the recipient seeing a folder full of XML and image assets rather than a cohesive diagram. To overcome these platform restrictions and ensure the diagram is viewable by clients or colleagues, the best practice is to convert the file. For static viewing and archiving, convert to PDF (Portable Document Format). For continued editing in vector software like Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape, SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) is the ideal target. For web integration, converting to PNG ensures high-fidelity raster previewing.
Convert.Guru analyzes your GRAFFLE file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted JPG, PDF, EMF, PLIST, JPEG, AI, ZIP, FLIPCHART, PNG, WFP, RPT, APKG and UMD3 files.
The GRAFFLE Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GRAFFLE converter.
