About GPF files
A .GPF file typically represents a Group Policy Settings file used by Microsoft Windows to enforce user and computer configurations across a network. Alternatively, it serves as a Garmin Profile File storing GPS device activity profiles in XML format. Because the .GPF extension is heavily fragmented, these files are deeply tied to their specific parent software and lack interoperability. A Windows GPF file is proprietary, complex, and mostly unreadable outside of a native server environment. It requires specialized tools like the Citrix GPF Generator or native Windows policy editors to manage. Garmin GPF files, while XML-based, contain proprietary node structures that general mapping software ignores. They are not natively supported by web browsers. To audit or review Windows policy settings, convert the data to .TXT or .CSV for readability. For Garmin activity profiles, convert the XML-based .GPF to standard .GPX or .KML for broad compatibility with Google Earth or standard GIS software. The GPF Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GPF converter.
