About FWS files
The .FWS file extension is shared by several distinct applications, causing frequent confusion. Most commonly, it represents an uncompressed Shockwave Flash file originally developed by Adobe. However, it is also widely used as a workspace or project file in specialized software. For example, it acts as a Fisheries statistics data workspace (packaged as a ZIP) for FAO FishStatJ, a 3D scan project workspace (using a Microsoft Compound structure) for FARO Scene, or an XML service list for FreeWorship.
The main disadvantage of .FWS files is their proprietary nature and lack of modern support. Flash files are obsolete, posing security risks, and are actively blocked by modern web browsers. Meanwhile, workspace formats from specialized tools lock your data behind expensive or niche software. Standard online converters almost always fail to process these files because they cannot correctly identify which of the many .FWS variations you uploaded.
To modernize your files, Flash-based .FWS files should be converted to MP4 or .HTML5 to guarantee playback. For data-driven workspaces, extracting the raw data to CSV, OBJ, or TXT is the safest approach. Our analysis engine will peek inside the file's header. If we detect a supported underlying format - like an embedded ZIP or XML - viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your FWS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The FWS Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FWS converter.
