About GCR files

The .GCR file extension is a highly fragmented format with three distinct, specialized use cases. Most commonly, it is a Garment printing design file used by GraffixPro Studio software, or a specialized PNG image variant handled by Ghostscript. Alternatively, it functions as a data logger waveform file generated by Graphtec hardware (such as the GL840) or Gossen Metrawatt devices. Finally, it can be a Gas chromatograph raw data file utilizing a Microsoft Compound underlying structure, typically created by Shimadzu GCMSsolution or Agilent ChemStation software.

These files are highly restrictive. Because they are proprietary and deeply tied to specific industrial hardware, they are extremely difficult to manage. You cannot open a .GCR waveform file in standard spreadsheet software, nor can you view a garment design in standard web browsers. They require expensive, niche software installations and cause immediate friction when sharing data with external clients or colleagues who lack the exact required programs.

To make the data usable, you must convert .GCR files to standard formats. Garment designs should be exported to PNG or JPG for visual sharing. Waveform and chromatogram data must be converted to CSV or XLSX for analysis.

Because .GCR files are closed and proprietary, standard online converters completely fail to process them. Often, only the original hardware software can properly read or export the exact binary data. However, convert.guru provides a practical workaround. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. Our analyzer will inspect the file's hex signature to determine exactly which of the three types it is. If our engine detects a supported embedded format - like the Microsoft Compound structure in chromatography files or embedded PNG data in Ghostscript variants - viewing or extracting the internal content may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your GCR file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted TXT, PDF, JPG, EPSI, CGP and XPT files.

The GCR Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GCR converter.
