About GCR files

The .GCR extension represents a classic case of file extension collision, serving three distinct, incompatible proprietary purposes. Most commonly, it is a Garment Printing Design file created by GraffixPro Studio, used to control Direct-to-Garment (DTG) printers. These files encapsulate vector artwork, raster images, and platen settings specific to Brother or Pulse machines. The main limitation here is vendor lock-in; you cannot view these designs in standard tools like Adobe Photoshop or standard image viewers. To share proofs with clients without requiring them to install specialized printing software, you should convert these to PDF or PNG.

Alternatively, your .GCR file may be a Data Logger Waveform generated by Graphtec instruments (such as the GL840 series). These are binary files storing raw voltage, temperature, or timing signals. Engineers often struggle with these because they are not human-readable text files. To analyze this data in Microsoft Excel or MATLAB, the file must be parsed and converted to CSV or XLSX.

Less frequently, a .GCR file contains raw gas chromatography data from Shimadzu or Agilent workstations. These scientific files are strictly for analysis within their respective "ChemStation" or "GCMSsolution" environments. For archiving or publication, these should be converted to PDF/A for reports or CSV for raw data access.

Convert.Guru analyzes your GCR file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted TXT, PDF, JPG, EPSI, CGP and XPT files.

The GCR Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GCR converter.
