About GBP files
The .GBP file is most commonly a Gerber Bottom Paste layer used in Printed Circuit Board (PCB) manufacturing, but it can also be a data backup archive created by Genie Backup Manager. In the electronics industry, a .GBP file is an ASCII-based vector format that tells computer-controlled machines exactly where to apply solder paste on the underside of a circuit board. This file is exported from EDA (Electronic Design Automation) software like Altium Designer, Autodesk EAGLE, or KiCad. The main disadvantage of the .GBP format is its highly specialized nature. For average users, a Gerber file is entirely useless; you cannot open it in a standard web browser or image viewer. Reviewing the design requires expensive engineering tools. On the other hand, if your .GBP file is a Genie Timeline backup, you face severe proprietary lock-in. If you lose access to the obsolete software, your critical documents and photos remain trapped inside an unrecognized archive container. To make Gerber files accessible to clients or non-engineers, users frequently convert them to PDF for documentation, PNG for quick visual checks, or DXF for mechanical CAD integration. For backup files, the easiest workaround is renaming the .GBP to ZIP, as many of these archives are simply disguised standard compressed folders. This file format is difficult to open because it serves two mutually exclusive, technically complex industries. Standard online converters typically fail because they cannot determine if the file contains 2D vector coordinates or compressed backup data. convert.guru bypasses this by safely inspecting the internal hex headers of your .GBP file. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your GBP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert GBP file to ZAR, PKR, BAK, BACKUP, OLD, TMP, TEMP, ARC, ZIP, TAR, GZ or 7Z, you can use Altium Designer or similar software from the "PCB Solder Paste Layer" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert SNAPSHOT, OLD, IMG, RESTORE, ISO, COPY, VMDK, TMP, VHD, BAK, ARCHIVE or BACKUP files to GBP, try Altium Designer or another comparable tool in the "PCB Solder Paste Layer" category.
The GBP Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GBP converter.
