Extract text from GBP files
To convert your GBP file to another format, you need Altium Designer or other Cad software.
To convert other file formats to the "PCB Manufacturing Data" file type, you need software like Altium Designer or a similar tool.
The .GBP extension is a source of confusion because it serves two completely different technical industries: electronics manufacturing and data recovery.
Most frequently, a .GBP file is a Gerber Bottom Paste layer. This is an ASCII-based vector format used in Printed Circuit Board (PCB) fabrication to define exactly where solder paste should be applied to the underside of a board. While it is the industry standard (part of the RS-274X family), it is useless to the average user without expensive EDA software like Altium Designer or CAM350. You cannot view it in a web browser or standard image editor. Users often need to convert these files to PDF for documentation, DXF for mechanical CAD integration, or PNG for quick visual verification by clients who lack engineering tools.
Alternatively, a .GBP file is a backup archive generated by Genie Backup Manager. These files act as containers for your critical documents, photos, and system settings. The major friction point here is proprietary lock-in: if you lose access to the Genie software or move to a new PC, your data remains trapped inside the .GBP file. While some versions use standard compression (allowing you to treat them as ZIP files), others use proprietary encoding that requires conversion or the original restoration tool to access.
Finally, it may be a project file for gBurner, which stores a list of file references rather than the actual data, meaning you cannot "convert" it to a disc image unless you have the original source files on your hard drive.
