Convert GAP to another file type
To convert GAP Data files to another format, you need MT Framework or other Data software.
Convert a file to GAP
To convert other file formats to the "Proprietary Project Data" file type, you need software like MT Framework or a similar tool.
About GAP files
The .gap file extension is associated with several highly specialized, closed data formats. Most commonly, it is a game animation data file used by the Capcom MT Framework engine to store 3D character movements. Additionally, .gap files are heavily used in scientific research as Gel Electrophoresis Analysis Projects by software like GelAnalyzer and TotalLab. Other documented uses include Gerber aperture list files for PCB manufacturing in CAM350, construction tender descriptions under the Norwegian Standard NS 3420, and 3D geometry projects for Geometrie-Arbeitsplatz.
These formats share a major disadvantage: they are strictly proprietary. You cannot open an MT Framework animation or a GelAnalyzer project natively in a web browser or standard office software. Game animation files are locked to a specific game engine version, creating barriers for 3D artists. Scientific analysis files require specific desktop software that may be expensive, outdated, or platform-restricted, causing severe vendor lock-in.
Users often need to extract this data for sharing or editing. For game animations, converting to FBX or OBJ is ideal for standard 3D modeling tools. For gel analysis, exporting raw data to CSV or visual reports to PDF is necessary. Aperture lists typically need conversion to standard Gerber RS-274X files to be processed by modern PCB manufacturers.
However, converting .gap files is notoriously difficult. Standard online converters fail because the internal data structures are closed, undocumented, and vary wildly depending on the source software. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your GAP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert GAP file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use MT Framework or similar software from the "Game Animation & Analysis Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to GAP, try MT Framework or another comparable tool in the "Game Animation & Analysis Data" category.
The GAP Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GAP converter.
