About CBD files
A .CBD file represents several completely different data formats depending on its origin. The most common application is for hardware firmware updates, specifically for ALI Corp set-top box chipsets and Chitu Systems 3D printer projectors. In other environments, it stores FPGA display controller data, proprietary label designs in Smead ColorBar, database tables in ComponentAce Absolute Database, and legacy form data in Microsoft InfoPath. The primary disadvantage of the .CBD extension is this fragmentation. Most of these formats are proprietary, closed-source binary files that cannot be opened by standard operating systems or web browsers. Without the exact matching software, the file is unreadable. Smead ColorBar requires paid licenses, and InfoPath is a discontinued product, making legacy file recovery extremely difficult. Users often try to convert these files to regain access to their data. Standard online converters fail because they cannot parse the undocumented binary structures of Absolute Database or proprietary firmware. For Microsoft InfoPath .CBD files, which use an internal XML structure, conversion to XML or CSV is possible. Smead label designs should ideally be exported to PDF using the original software. Firmware files should never be converted, as altering the binary will brick the target hardware. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

The CBD Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CBD converter.
