A .GAB file is a specialized database format used primarily for Norwegian construction project descriptions and tender specifications.
These files are natively created and managed by Norconsult ISY software, formerly known as G-PROG or GAB-Systemer.
Users often struggle with this format because it is highly regional and proprietary. Opening it requires expensive industry-specific software, and it is not supported by standard web browsers or generic document readers. This creates major bottlenecks when sharing tender details with international contractors or stakeholders who do not use Norconsult tools.
To make the data accessible, the best conversion targets are CSV or XLSX for tabular data review, or PDF for static document sharing. Because the underlying structure is often a standard JetDB database, converting to MDB is also a practical workaround.
