About FXSNAPSHOT files

A .fxsnapshot file is a Forex trading session snapshot used to save the exact state of a market backtesting session.

This format is primarily created and managed by Forex Tester, a specialized desktop application designed for simulating trading strategies using historical tick data.

Users frequently need to convert or extract these files to analyze their trading data outside of the original software. The main disadvantage of the .fxsnapshot format is its proprietary nature. It requires an expensive desktop software license to open natively and cannot be imported directly into live trading platforms like MetaTrader 4 or TradingView. Standard converters fail because they expect generic documents, not complex simulation states.

The best target formats are GZ or ZIP. Under the hood, a .fxsnapshot file is simply a standard GZIP archive containing the session data. Converting or extracting it allows you to recover the raw XML or CSV data, although specific visual chart layouts and proprietary indicators will be lost.

Because this is a closed, proprietary format, it is extremely difficult to convert it directly into another trading platform's native save file. Our platform detects the embedded GZIP compression structure, allowing you to extract the internal text and backtesting logs without installing the original software.

Convert.Guru analyzes your FXSNAPSHOT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted SNAPSHOT, PART, RDF and JSONLZ4 files.
