About FXR files

.FXR files primarily serve as received fax documents generated by legacy Symantec WinFax PRO or older Delrina WinFax software. A secondary, modern use for .FXR files is as audio effect presets for the Xfer Records Serum synthesizer plugin (Serum FX Rack Preset). Less commonly, they act as FlexRes video codec files for Green Hippo Hippotizer media servers or compiled report files for Microsoft Visual FoxPro. Historically, you needed the discontinued WinFax PRO to open the fax variants, or Xfer Serum to load the audio presets. The main disadvantage of the .FXR fax format is extreme obsolescence. Because WinFax is dead, modern operating systems cannot natively read these proprietary raster files, leaving historical data locked in unreadable archives. Serum .FXR files are highly proprietary to a specific paid VST plugin and cannot be universally previewed. For legacy fax documents, convert to PDF for long-term archiving or JPG / PNG for immediate web sharing. For Serum presets, they generally remain as .FXR for plugin use, though preset parameters might occasionally be extracted to XML or TXT for reference.
