About FP5 files
The .fp5 file extension identifies a legacy database format exclusively used by versions 5.0 through 6.0 of FileMaker Pro, a cross-platform relational database application now developed by Claris. These files are self-contained solutions that store not just data records, but also the interface layouts, scripts, and security privileges. The primary obstacle for users today is that .fp5 files are technically obsolete; modern versions of FileMaker (specifically the current fmp12 ecosystem) strictly cannot open or import them directly. This disconnect creates a significant barrier, often requiring a "conversion chain" where users must first find and install discontinued software (like FileMaker Pro 11) to convert the file to an intermediate format (file.fp7) before it can be modernized. Additionally, because the format is proprietary and binary, you cannot view the data in a text editor or web browser. To liberate your information, the best strategy is converting raw data tables to CSV or XLSX for immediate analysis in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets. For preserving the visual look of forms and reports, converting to PDF is the ideal archiving solution.
Convert.Guru analyzes your FP5 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert FP5 file to FMP12, FP7, DB, SQLITE, SQLITE3, MDB, ACCDB, DBF, ODB, FDB, GDB or MYD, you can use FileMaker Pro or similar software from the "Legacy Relational Database" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert NDF, SQLITE3, BAK, RDB, SQL, DB4, MDF, MDB, LDF, DB, DB3 or SQLITE files to FP5, try FileMaker Pro or another comparable tool in the "Legacy Relational Database" category.
The FP5 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FP5 converter.
