About FP5 files
The .fp5 file is a proprietary relational database created by FileMaker Pro 5, a popular database management system developed by Claris International Inc. (formerly FileMaker Inc.). It stores data tables, layouts, scripts, and forms. This format is obsolete and highly disadvantageous today. It was replaced by fp7 in 2004 and fmp12 in 2012. You cannot open a .fp5 file with modern web browsers, standard text editors, or even modern versions of FileMaker Pro without performing a multi-step legacy migration process. It is a closed, proprietary format that heavily restricts access to your own data. To make the data usable, users typically need to export the tables to standard formats like CSV (Comma Separated Values) or XLSX (Microsoft Excel). If you want to keep using the database, it must be migrated sequentially to fp7 and then to the modern fmp12 format. Note that exporting to flat files like CSV will lose all layouts, scripts, and relational links. This file format is notoriously difficult to open or convert because it is deeply proprietary. Standard online converters fail to process it because they lack the proprietary database engine required to read the complex relational structures. Often, only the original legacy software can properly read or export the data. We can inspect the file, and show text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or data extraction may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your FP5 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert FP5 file to FMP12, FP7, DB, SQLITE, SQLITE3, MDB, ACCDB, DBF, ODB, FDB, GDB or MYD, you can use FileMaker Pro or similar software from the "Relational Database Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert NDF, SQLITE3, BAK, RDB, SQL, DB4, MDF, MDB, LDF, DB, DB3 or SQLITE files to FP5, try FileMaker Pro or another comparable tool in the "Relational Database Storage" category.
The FP5 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FP5 converter.
