About FMS files
The .FMS file extension is highly fragmented and notorious for software collisions. It is primarily used as an XML-based Trophy Dental X-ray series file, a Flight Management System (FMS) plan for the X-Plane Flight Simulator, or a saved game file for Football Manager. You might also encounter it as an 8-bit music project from FamiStudio. The main disadvantage of .FMS files is this extreme fragmentation. If you receive an .FMS file without context, Windows or macOS will not automatically know what to do with it. Medical .FMS files from Trophy imaging software are highly specialized XML documents that require expensive proprietary software to render the patient series correctly. X-Plane flight plans are plain text but are completely useless outside the specific simulator ecosystem. Football Manager saves are heavily compressed binary files that are locked down to prevent tampering; you cannot natively edit them to alter gameplay stats or transfer them to different game years. Users usually need to convert .FMS files to extract the underlying data or migrate flight routes. For archiving medical metadata or inspecting flight coordinates, convert text-based .FMS files to XML or TXT to view the raw data, or to PDF for universal sharing.
