About FMP files

The .FMP file extension is most commonly associated with AutoCAD Font Map files used by Autodesk AutoCAD, or database files created by Claris FileMaker Pro. In AutoCAD, these plain text files map missing TrueType or PostScript fonts to native AutoCAD SHX fonts so drawings render correctly without visual errors. In FileMaker Pro, .FMP files store structured relational database records, layouts, scripts, and user data.

Both formats have distinct limitations. The AutoCAD .FMP file is a highly specific configuration file. It is practically useless outside of CAD environments, making it confusing for users who just want to view a drawing. Meanwhile, FileMaker Pro .FMP database files are strictly proprietary. They require expensive subscriptions to Claris software to open and cannot be natively queried by web browsers or standard SQL tools.

Because AutoCAD font maps are plain text, they can be easily converted to TXT, CSV, or PDF for review. Converting FileMaker Pro databases is much harder. Users typically need to export data from within the original software to CSV, XLSX, or PDF.

FileMaker .FMP files are difficult to convert because their internal binary structure is closed and obfuscated to lock users into the FileMaker ecosystem. Standard online converters often fail because they lack the proprietary decoding libraries. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. However, convert.guru can still identify the file format, inspect the file, and show text or internal content. Just drag and drop your file to see what it is and convert it if supported. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded text format, viewing or extraction may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your FMP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted FMP12, FP7, SHX, FP3, DWG, FAS and IFC files.

The FMP Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FMP converter.
